Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search box is transmitted to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its result under its own terms. Jefferson County Criminal History does not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to address it and maintain ordinary business records. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the server and related services to receive routine technical information about the visit:
- Page-view dates, times, and approximate visit length
- Browser type, browser version, and operating system
- Device category and assigned IP address
- Pages viewed during the session
- The referring website, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device to support traffic measurement and other site functions. Analytics providers may combine visit data to show which pages are used and how people move through the site. Browser controls can reject or remove cookies, although blocking them may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Delivering search entries to the selected partner service
- Operating, securing, and improving site performance
- Finding errors and resolving technical faults
- Measuring which content visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect general interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Jefferson County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official custodians, including Jefferson County agencies and courts, DCJS personal Record Review, DOCCS, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a file about another person or into a consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search tools that appear on some pages. Information submitted to a tool is governed by that company's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices rather than this policy. Read those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Jefferson County departments, New York court portals, DCJS, DOCCS, other government offices, legal resources, and commercial services. Once a visitor follows an outbound link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal details.
Advertising partners may use their own technology to measure activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs on the partner's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that receive a submitted query
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable administrative and technical measures are used to protect information in the site's control. No internet service can guarantee complete security, so loss, misuse, or unauthorized access can never be ruled out entirely.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If information from a minor is identified, a deletion request may be made through the contact route.
Your Data Rights
Applicable New York law may provide rights concerning personal data. New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to records held by state and local agencies, not records held by this private site. Executive Law § 837 separately authorizes DCJS criminal-history functions and dissemination within statutory limits. A visitor may still ask this site to:
- Describe the personal information kept about that visitor
- Correct information shown to be inaccurate
- Delete eligible personal data
- Honor an applicable opt-out from certain processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised when practices or legal requirements change. A revised version becomes available on this page and carries a new effective date.
Effective date: August 1, 2026
